May 5, 2017 News

What gorgeous weather we have enjoyed this week.  I hope you can get outside this weekend for family time!

The last swimming day is tomorrow.  On Monday, the children will need their tennis shoes for PE class.

Repeat from last week: Thank you for your help and support of the Minnesota Amazing Race destination project.  You are cordially invited to the “release party” on Wednesday, May 31st at 1:30pm in the Theater.  The movie will be about an hour.  Immediately following the movie, we will head back to the classroom for the children to recap their year with you!  They can share their Portfolios, various projects, and have your help packing up materials.  Please plan to bring a sturdy bag with handles.

Lower School Closing Exercises will be on Friday, June 2nd in the Chapel at 1:30pm.  There will be a reception immediately following the program on the Chapel Green.  This is a semi-dressy event.

Curriculum highlights

We have been busy practicing long division.  It is so important that your child keep practicing the basic multiplication and division facts.  We have discovered that not knowing the facts can cause delays in solving problems and make it more difficult to solve problems.  Next week, we will jump into our fractions unit.

We continue to read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo.  We have enjoyed discussions about happiness and love, character traits, and what it means to be “real.”

Your children have loved researching their notable Minnesotan!  They are almost done with research and then will move into writing their “script” for our wax museum.  We will do this next Friday, May 12th at 2:30pm.  Your child should come in his/her uniform and bring clothes for the notable person to change into before the wax museum.
