May 19, 2017 News

This week, we have been working on our Minnesota maps, along with learning about our state’s symbols.  Most of the children are done with their map.  Next week, we will discuss the important geographical features of Minnesota and take a map quiz.  We will also make plans for our cookie maps.  During the last week of school, we will have our map cookie project.  The children will need to pass one more “quiz” before they can partake in the cookie!

Fractions are all around us!  The children have been excited to study fractions.  This week, we discussed comparing fractions with like denominators and equivalent fractions.  We will continue our fractions unit for the remainder of the school year.

The Read-In (or should I say Read-Out) is on Monday!  Children should bring a beach towel and books.

As you know, Field Day has been postponed until next Friday, May 26th.  The schedule will remain the same: we will eat lunch at 12:15pm and the activities will take place from 1-3pm.  Please join us if you are able!  The theme is “Land of 10,000 Lakes” and children are encouraged to wear blue or Breck apparel (it is a non-uniform day).  Please send your child in with a water bottle and they should wear tennis shoes.  Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen are great items to bring as well.

Important Events (Repeat from last week)

There will be no school on Monday, May 29th for Memorial Day.

MN Movie (Amazing Race Destination Project) will be shown in the Theater on Wednesday, May 31st at 1:30pm.  The movie will be approximately an hour.  Immediately following the movie, we will head back to the classroom for the children to recap their year with you!  They can share their Portfolios, various projects, and have your help packing up materials.  J

Thursday, June 1st will be a non-uniform day for everyone.

Friday, June 2 will be a full day of school with our Lower School Closing Program at 1:30pm in the Chapel.  Children should come dressed in semi-dressy attire.  There will be a reception immediately following the program.
